"Coal seam gas is not a fossil fuel," said Nationals MP Kevin
Humphries when he addressed a Chamber of Commerce meeting last night.
Mr Humphries has been the NSW National Party Member for Barwon since
March 2007. Santos is drilling for coal seam gas in part of his electorate in
The Pilliga, south of Narrabri. Gas and water are being extracted from the coal
seam below the Great Artesian Basin in a recharge area.
In his inaugural speech to parliament Mr Humphries said that he had trained
‘at the Catholic Teachers College operated by the Christian Brothers in
Strathfield. In 1981, I began what was to become a 20-year career in teaching
and administration. I completed my bachelor of education externally through
Armidale University and later post-graduate studies in education administration
through the Australian Catholic University in Brisbane. In 1981, I began what
was to become a 20-year career in teaching and administration.’
Mr Humphries was dropped after a year as Minister for Western NSW and Minister
for Natural Resources, Lands and Water in April this year. He was appointed a
member of the Committee on the Independent Commission Against Corruption in
May.
How do we educate people about coal seam gas if our politicians and
teachers are so ignorant?
